Texas has 6.2 million K-12 students, yet less than half of them is reading or doing math at grade level by the 4th or 8th grade. Hundreds of thousands of Texas students are trapped in failing public schools, limiting their potential and jeopardizing the future of our state. Texas students are the future, and they must be given every opportunity to succeed. It’s time to empower parents with the freedom to choose the best educational options for their children and ensure that every student has a path to success.

Texas can join the 18 other states that have passed an Education Savings Account program, which allows parents to use their tax dollars to choose the best educational environment for their children. By giving parents control through a $10,000+ ESA, students trapped in failing schools can have priority enrollment in better-performing institutions. An effective ESA bill must ensure accountability and transparency, with regular audits and nationally norm-referenced assessments to measure student outcomes. This approach will provide educational freedom and improve the quality of education across the state.
